An apology does more than acknowledge harm. It can take the heat out of a dispute, humanise both parties, rebuild trust and help everyone move from blame towards resolution.
Gordon also highlights something that’s often overlooked: while research tends to focus on the person receiving the apology, there can be a significant emotional benefit for the person brave enough to make it.
